The Online Noise for S&C Coaches

We live in a wild online world, a bit like the Matrix, but how do you combat that, especially as a S&C coach?

It has happened to us at one stage or another: you jump on your computer to look something up, be it for work or personal use, and before you know it, you are watching cute animal videos and TikTok dances. Yes, it happens to us all, and it is not a nice feeling when you realize how much time you have wasted.

Being pulled and pushed around online is quite common, which can lead to procrastination both at home and at work. Research estimates that roughly 15-20% of people are chronic procrastinators, with the average person procrastinating 55 days a year.

That is a lot of time!

So how can S&C coaches limit this procrastination?

1. Put an ad blocker on your browser – This blocks all ads, from sidebar ads to big pop-ups, helping you stay focused on researching training techniques or programming.

2. Use Instapaper – A great app in which you can save articles from your browser to read later. It removes all the clutter that tends to build up around blog posts, making it easier to find and focus on valuable S&C content.

3. Switch to focus mode – If you are working from your computer and do not need the internet, switch it to focus mode and turn on airplane mode to avoid distractions from incoming messages and emails. This is particularly useful when designing programs or analyzing athlete data.

4. Put your phone away – Do not leave it on the desk face up as you will be tempted to grab that addictive device quite often while you work. Doing so will also play havoc with your concentration levels, whether you are planning sessions, reviewing athlete progress, or catching up on the latest research.

I hope these tips help reduce the online noise we S&C are bombarded with daily.
